Shameen Subrana. Bangladesh. WHAT I TALK ABOUT WHEN I TALK ABOUT LIFE. 2015. Acrylic on canvas. Size: L20 by W16 inches
Shameen’s story. My work is a social commentary on the world – it can be deemed feminist, but it is not just about women it is about all oppressed people, and my paintings give them voice, and I hope tell a story of hope. Child marriage, violence against women, climate change, migration and displacement… I want to raise awareness but also encourage debates and propel action around these issues. I invite my viewers to construct their own meaning out of apparent abstraction.
