Vinita’s story.  She is bold, powerful, strong, free, independent.  I choose feminist icons – Frida Kahlo, Marilyn Monroe, and in this one, Bollywood actress Chitrangada Singh, known for challenging myths and breaking new boundaries on women’s roles and identity in society. The Storyteller Series was inspired in part by stories told to me by my grandmother, many of which I re-tell through my art.  I draw on images from Indian mythology and lore, mixed with my own view of contemporary women in today’s society.  I mix the then and the now.  I am a part of each of my works.
