Anita Tiwary (b. 1959) has her Masters in Art Criticism from Maharaja Sayajirao University of BARODA (1983), her BFA from the Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University (1980).  She was awarded a research grant from Lalit Kala Academy (1986-1987).  Her work has been exhibited in solo and group shows across India, East Asia, and in Europe. She has participated in international residencies (Hungary, Spain) and been the recipient of several prizes and awards for painting.   Anita’s titles of her works are lyrical and textured like her works.  They include ‘Things are not always black and white;’ `Calligraphy of the beach,’ ‘Half glass full or half glass empty,’ or this work – `Souls Hung Out.’    Her works refer to a world as seen and perceived by her, with rearranged spatial realities, real and surreal images, poetry in her use of vivid sensual colours – all of which serve to emphasize her autonomy and define her expression as a woman and as an artist.  Her works parallel the literary form of magical realism.
